The Office of the Education Registrar facilitates the participation of home educated students in the NAPLAN assessment program. Participation in NAPLAN testing is not compulsory for home educated students, it is an ‘opt-in’ process.
We have recently been advised by the Department of Education that the home education community will be transitioning to NAPLAN Online testing from 2022. All children age-equivalent to students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 (see table below) will be able to participate in NAPLAN Online from their homes next year. As part of this transition for home educated students, for 2022 only, there will also be the option to do paper-based testing as in previous years.
Age Equivalent Table:
Year Born | Year in 2022 |
2013 | Year 3 |
2011 | Year 5 |
2009 | Year 7 |
2007 | Year 9 |
From 2023, NAPLAN will be conducted online only (no paper-based testing). To assist with this transition to online testing, the OER will be running practice online test sessions in
March - April 2022, facilitated by the Department of Education.
These sessions will be compulsory for students planning to undertake NAPLAN Online testing in May 2022 to ensure there are no significant technical issues at the time of live testing. These practice tests will help to ensure a smooth process in May 2022 and reduce any stress at that time.
Further information regarding the practice test sessions and other preparations necessary (for example, setting up devices for taking the tests) for NAPLAN Online will be provided once we have an indication of the number of participants.
Please register your interest by Wednesday, 23 February 2022 for either online or paper testing by completing the form below. If you have more than one child who you would like to register, you will need to complete a seperate form for each child.
If you have already registered your interest earlier this year, you do not need to register again.
Our Office will be in contact with you in the coming months with further information.
If you have any specific queries relating to NAPLAN, you are welcome to contact the NAPLAN helpdesk on naplan@education.tas.gov.au or telephone 6165 5914.
