Important Update: Transition to Digital Certificates and Registration Reports
Transition to Digital Certificates, Registration Reports and other documentation

Dear Home Educating Community,
We hope this message finds you and your families well.
We would like to notify you of some significant updates to our procedures in our continued commitment to improve our impact on the environment and our efficiency.
We are transitioning to email correspondence and PDF attachments for most of our registration documentation. This includes:
- Request for HESPs letters - will shortly be an email
- Registration letter - will shortly be an email that contains:
- Registration certificates - will be PDF attachment to the registration email
- Registration reports - will be a PDF attachment to the registration email
- Provisional Registration Letters - will be a PDF sent by email only.
If you need a printed copy of any of these documents, please email us at registrar@oer.tas.gov.au, and we will be happy to post them to you.
We believe these changes will not only help reduce our environmental footprint but also ensure that you receive your documents more quickly, securely, and that they are more readily accessible for your own records and purposes.
Year 10 Transition Certificates, the equivalent of the Year 12 Completion Certificates, and Home Education Completion Certificates will continue be printed and posted to you.
Laminated Registration Cards
We are also looking into how we can provide you with a digital registration card that can be added to your phone digital wallet, rather than a printed laminated card. We will update you soon. In the meantime, we will still post out laminated registration cards.
UPDATE 1 May 2025
Feedback from home educators has been received about the need for students to have a physical registration card. As a result, we plan to include an option on the application form for home educators to select their preferred type of registration card. You will be able to choose between a laminated card, a digital card, or both.
Additionally, we are looking into ways to present the laminated cards in a more professional manner, including improving their look and feel.
SMS Messaging Reminders
We are also excited to announce that we will be introducing SMS reminders for HESP renewals and registration visits. The text message service number is 0416 906 729.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we make this transition. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.
Warm regards,
Jo Spencer
