Results of the 2024 Home Education Stakeholder Survey

We are very pleased to provide to the Home Educating Community, the results of the 2024 Home Education Stakeholder Survey. Thank you very much to those who participated in the Survey.

The purpose of the survey was to hear from you about your experience of the home education registration process and how we could improve in the future.

We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the home education community. The 2024 survey results indicate that 94% of home educators are satisfied, very satisfied, or extremely satisfied with their experience when interacting with the OER.

In addition to the overall satisfaction, 85% of home educators reported feeling supported or well-supported by their registration officers.

The positive feedback underscores the commitment of the OER and our registration officers to assist home educators in their important role. The OER continues to strive for excellence in providing advice and support, ensuring that home education is viewed as a legal and rewarding alternative to traditional schooling for families.

However, there were areas where we can improve including enhancements to our Understanding the Standards publication and simplifying our language used in letters or emails.

We have completed a review of the letters and emails as these will be rolled out very soon.  We are also nearing the completion of two new publications: Guide to New Home Education Registrations and Guide to Renewing Home Education Registrations.  Additionally, we have separated the content for what is needed for a new program and what should be included in a renewing home education summary and program. 

These improvements are a direct result of your feedback!

Another exciting resource that we are finalising includes examples of HESPs as well as improved HESP templates.  These examples will cover various approaches to home education and cater to different age groups.

All of this work is nearing completion, and we hope to release these very soon, along with a new website that will contain simplified information about the home registration process.

Finally, in August 2025, we will conduct another survey to identify further areas for improvement and to better support you. We hope you will take the opportunity to participate and share your valuable insights.
